We are not only service providers, but we are also experts in prevention
Before the guests arrive and the festivities begin, there 8 things we want to make sure of for safety's sake.
- Make sure no more than 3 strings of incandescent lights are connected at once, this can not only blow a fuse but start a fire.
- Do not overload your outlets, spread out which outlets you plug your decorations in to.
- Always inspect any electrical decorations before use for damages. Loose or bare wires, damaged sockets etc. can lead to an electrical shock or fire.
- Try to use battery-operated candles, if you can. The less fire you have about, the less likely it is to accidentally spread.
- Make sure cords are never pinched by furniture, placed under rugs, or placed near heat sources. Especially make sure nothing is attached by nails or staples.
- Pay attention to your decoration labels. If they do not have a label from a testing company such as UL, CSA or ETL- it's likely it hasn't been tested for safety.
- Stay in the kitchen when something is cooking, unattended cooking equipment is the leading cause of kitchen fires.
- When all the day’s joyful activities are over, be sure to turn off, unplug and extinguish all decorations before slumber.
Now that you have these tips in mind, make the necessary adjustments in your home before your guests arrive. SERVPRO of Plymouth/Wareham wishes you and your family a Merry Christmas!
